If you want to know why I have been MIA, it’s because I have been cleaning up my house, and I officially started my new job…I recently left my job as a Graphic Designer for the Michigan Business Review and now work as a Web Editor/Webmaster for the local CBS Radio station here in metro Detroit..which I love, because I am a web geek at heart. I still get to do graphic design, but I also get to work with CMS and code..which is cool. Anywho I can’t believe all of the progress I have made so far with the living room in the past few weeks…
I donated a bunch of useless junk to the Salvation Army, including some larger furniture pieces and newer accessories…and thank heavens I got rid of the hideous blue sofa and loveseat set! They will actually come out to your house with a truck if you have tons of stuff–which we did–so that was a huge weight off of my shoulders (literally). Hopefully someone out there will put everything to good use.
Do you remember the before? I admit it doesn’t look much like my inspiration room yet, but you know it’s a start..and I never intended to copy the look entirely.
Above is Lula on our Pier 1 Rattan sofa, which I decided to keep in the living room for now – at least until I settle on a sofa. I will be covering the cushions–I’m thinking of using just a plain white or natural colored linen. The pillows I have been collecting for a while now. The pillow on the far left with the flowers is by inhabit, the two blue & white patterned are from Target, and the the naughty or nice pillow with all of the words is by Jonathan Adler (buy it here).
Above is my other cat Norman, whom we call affectionately call Normie Swarmie or “Norm Swarm”. This console is another Pier 1 product, the globe is from the Cool Plant Lady’s garage sale a few weeks back, The lamp base is a vintage find from the Salvation Army, the linen shade is from Anthropologie, the print/frame combo is from T.J. Maxx, the neon green pillow is from Big Lots, and the little plant habitat/ceramic pot combo was on sale for $3.99 at Kroger! Let’s see how long it lasts.
Again, I am a bargain shopper, so everything mentioned above was either on sale or clearance…you know how I do!
The book shelf has yet to be decluttered and organized and I’m sure the items on the console table will change, but I think overall I’m making good progress.

Ever since I saw a distressed brown leather sofa in an Anthropologie display at Somerset Collection, I have been dying to have one. I found a sofa with a similar look on Detroit Craigs List today. Here’s more info…
Description:
Luxurious Brown Italian Leather Couch from Macy’s / Hudsons. Beautiful large over-stuffed style in super soft brown leather. It is from the “Chateau d’Ax” collection by DIVANI. This couch measures 90” in length and 38” in depth. It seats three adults easily or you can stretch out with plenty of length from head to foot. It has been very lightly used in an office setting and is in excellent condition. A beautiful addition to any living room, family room, library or den. This couch was over $3,500.00 when new. Must Sell. $999.00.
What a steal at $999.00, I wonder if the condition is as good as it appears on photo. I really wish this were in my budget, because it appears to be quite fabulous. If you’re interested in buying, click here to contact the seller…tell them The D in Decor sent you!

If you like this then please subscribe to the RSS Feed.A few days ago, I showed you my inspiration room and described my “bohomodern” style. I’ve been eyeing this chet sofa from CB2 ever since their newest catalog arrived on my doorstep. This baby is an even more modern take on the tufted style of Anthropolgie’s Milo Sofa that I dig so much. The price isn’t that bad either at $899 especially compared to the $3 G’s I would have to drop if I invested in Milo (never that!). I’m not familiar at all with the quality of CB2 though–I’m worried that it might not survive my cats (and their constant climbing and clawing) who, by the way, I have yet to introduce (look for that later this week!). As much as I love Chet, knowing my luck I’m sure that by the time I even have enough saved up to snag it, that it will be out of stock. Looks like I’ll be adding some additional google ads tonight!

So this is my humble north west side home . My husband and I bought it a few years back, when we didn’t really know what we wanted or what we were doing. But we’re stuck with it, and have grown to love it. Two years later, and I haven’t even scratched the surface of decorating it. I’m hoping that by blogging about it, I will be encouraged to get to work. I’ll be sure to write about all of my updates, challenges, and revelations.
I want to concentrate on the living room first, that’s it in the photo above. Depressing isn’t it? The living room is first on my list because we like to entertain often, and it is the first room guests see when they walk in. For those that don’t have a separate entryway, I’m sure you can feel my pain. It is currently stocked with mostly (used) IKEA & Pier 1 goods, since we needed it furnished quickly and with budget-friendly options. If I could do it over again, I would go vintage.
Some of my living room goals:
- Replace carpets with hardwood floors.
- Replace lamps and accessories.
- Create and/or invest in new furniture.
- Get new window treatments.
- Start an art collection.
- Paint!
My inspiration for the living room is this photo from a recent Anthropologie catalog. I like the combination of patterns, organic pieces, modern, and eclectic choices which totally suit my “Bohomodern” style. Most of Anthropologie’s upholstery pieces (and everything else for that matter) are way beyond what I’d like to spend. I’d like to find a way to do my own thing using found, vintage, DIY, and some newer pieces. I think finding a killer sofa is going to be most difficult part of achieving my own look. I’m loving the retro tufted sofa in the photo, but know it’s going to be a struggle to find something similar in my price range. I’m taking suggestions and will post some of my recent finds this week.
